Fixing Litter Robot 3’s stiff liner not dropping, no bullshit

Requirements

• Something that has weight
• Some sort of binder: glue, double sided tape, etc
• Anti limescale solution
• Brush

You can really use ANYTHING that has weight. One idea I had was to pound and duct tape (clean) kitty litter put in a plastic bag into a 200g flat disc, then hot glue it to the weight. I ended up using some random pieces of metal I had laying around

Tl;dr, no bullshit

1. Take out the rubber liner (see online for how to do this, whisker has a video)
2. Vacuum, spray cleaning solution, wipe clean
3. Put in bath tub/shower/bucket/etc
4. Use anti limescale and rust solution on the entire interior of the liner. Make sure everything is covered
5. Let sit for 15-20 minutes
6. Use a non metal brush to clean it well, rinse it well, and dry it very well
7. Glue/double sided tape the weight tightly into its liner slot(extra, so it stops popping out)
8. Glue/double sided tape/magnet ~200-250g extra weight to the weight
9. Reinstall, watch it drop

Why does it happen?

The rubber stiffens over time and the weight is no longer enough to drop it. The cost to fix it could be 0 if you have some glue or double sided tape and something that weighs…weight.

How to prevent this?

Take your litter robot apart once a month and clean the rubber well with anti rust and limescale solution. Let it soak, then rub all the dirt and debris out with a brush. It takes like 30 minutes to do the whole process. You clean your house anyway(I hope), so schedule it at the same time.

Do note the rubber will still stiffen over time, but not as much.

What’s the solution?

Add ~200g more weight, that’s it. Stick stuff to the current weight. Use glue, double sided tape, whatever you have laying around.

TEST first. You might need more depending on how stiff your rubber is.

Stick some weight, see how it goes. I’d say add 50g more than the weight you tested with just in case.

I had two identical pieces of 60g, tried with one, didn’t work. Tried with 2, seemed to work. I stickied everything together, then the liner didn’t drop. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I threw a magnet and 100g~ of extra weight, it dropped just fine.

For my other litter robot though I had to add even more weight.

Could this harm my kitty?

No. If the liner doesn’t drop at all 250~g of extra weight won’t cause it to drop fast enough to harm a cat, even a young one. I initially tested with 2 weights magnet-ed together and not even that was enough to cause any serious drop.

How long should the liner last?

This is rubber. Unless the cats start scratching it out and eating it, it should last for a very long time. Keep it clean.

Extra: weight keeps popping out

The weight is flat on the side you insert into the liner. Get some strong double sided tape and cover the entire flat bottom, and as much as you can on the edges. When washing it this does become a bit annoying, but if you dry it well and don’t soak it for too long the weights should be fine.

Does it matter if the liner isn’t dropping?

Yes. It’s the most important part and it gets very dirty without it dropping. Don’t risk your and your cat’s health, do this right now if you have this issue.
